In Need of a New Name

Well, this blog’s current name is “Chronicles of a Bowman” but as you can see I rarely talk about bowman stuff, nor do I really have information on how to create a decent bowman. Instead I’ve mainly gone on about Maple and other games Nexon manages. That being said, I think it’s time I chose a new name.

Right now though, I have no idea what kind of catchy name I could give a MapleStory blog, but if you have an idea, comment me.

Apparently, Female Nexon GMs Dig My Bunny Suit :P

Well, not really, but I just had something kinda funny happen to me about half an hour ago.

I was really bored and I was switching between Maple and just web surfing. Out of habit whenever my parents come into the room I always bring Maple back up for some strange reason. My father came in to vacuum and so I did so, and I noticed someone was standing behind my character.

This definately wasn’t an ordinary character though. Out of my usual habits I double-clicked the character behind me but nothing was coming up. At first I thought I was lagging or having trouble clicking, so I right-clicked her instead and lo and behold I found out why I wasn’t able to click her, simply because her name was “GMSCody”. If you know as much about the game and its community as I do, you probably know what most characters that are prefixed with “GMS” are.

maplestory-2007-09-28-10-57-33-68.jpgMy first thought was, “oh crap, I’ve done something and now I’m getting banned.” I started moving around and apparently she was there sitting at her [most likely] souped up computer at Nexon America’s head office, and I couldn’t help but ask if I was in trouble. Her response? Well, click the screenie to find out. I had a bit of a laugh with that.

I was actually quite surprised at the enounter. I’m sure that there was some sort of hidden reason as to why a GM decided to show up behind my AFKing character, but at the same time I guess we know Nexon is doing what they’re supposed to do if that was the case. (It was funny because after, I was like “what if somehow they detected that I’ve been affected by the ‘invincibility glitch’” and ran into a few monsters just to make sure.)

maplestory-2007-09-28-11-00-03-12.jpgShe decided to stick around for a while, but not for too long. Fortunately it was a small crowd once she had her Wizet Hat on. (For those that don’t already know, their GM mark only shows when they have the hat on. This is the reason why I didn’t notice until I saw the name that the person was a GM; because they didn’t have the hat on and thus had no mark.) For the most part it was just fun times I guess. Alas, Dad’s vacuuming managed to trip the circuit breaker twice so I was scrambling to manage with that, since my laptop loves to tell me that it disabled my ethernet port and to do so it minimizes to the desktop. (Fortunately, I’m on a laptop and the router + modem were on a different circuit, plus I use WiFi instead of ethernet.)

So yea, there’s my little story for the day. Quite interesting, and quite random.

To Be “Honored”

Just a random tidbit that I found out about. I think it’s kinda kinky for some reason.

One of Nexon’s constests over the past month involved their forums, where I guess they chose some of the more recent thoughtful posters for 15000 NX cash each.

Now, if you remember back to when the Nexon Forums were still sane with all the n00bs still over at the Mapleglobal forums, I posted a lot and thoughfully as well. Of course, it eventually gave way to Sleepywood again although I lurked through it on a regular basis.

I’m guessing Nexon decided that alongside these contest winners that they would create an “Honored Member” group as well to show who over the time of the forum’s six-month-and-counting lifespan has made a good contribution. I was in Sleepywood’s IRC channel today when their crazed admin TheMagnolia found out that not only she was selected as an honored member but that I was too.

So I took a gander and found the big blue button in my postbit, which I thought was kinda cool; I honestly have never been given such a title on any big forum before (even though it is in fact Nexon’s forum) but being chosen along with nine other people in a forum that has some 30000+ members is quite a feat, regardless of the average quality of each post.

So, as I mentioned before, there are 10 of these Honored members, and they include:
.PK3rZ.
__Kakashi__
Ataraxia (Also an sw.net mod)
bobbert
Massato
Moofey
Princess
Rayuujin131
TheMagnolia (Also an sw.net admin/perv :P)

Finally… KartRider Bliss

For all of you that have been waiting since forever to hear anything about KartRider, we now have an answer.

For those that haven’t noticed yet, there is a new announcement and a countdown timer on the KartRider US website.  Now, my first concern was going to be (as it was for a long time) that people were going to complain that we “waited 4 months for just an open beta,” but that doesn’t seem to be the case.  Everyone seems happy about this news.

That being said, assuming that the timer is supposed to represent the countdown to launch in pacific time, KartRider US’ Open Beta should be live October 2nd at 3:00 PM PDT.   I know I haven’t been on the complaining bandwagon as per the time between betas, but it is in some way a criticism by me, and honestly I would’ve rather had the closed beta later (like July or August) instead of when it was if I knew that the gap between closed and open beta would be so long.  I just can’t wait to be able to start playing it again; I was pro compared to the other North Americans that played. :P

As well, Nexon is holding a contest between now and the end of October.  All you need to do is refer a friend to KartRider and you’re in, though the more friends you get on board the better.  The prizes include things like NX Cash, T-shirts, with the two big prizes being an 8 GB iPod Nano and an Alienware laptop.  (I’d love to get a hold of that laptop, too. :P)

That being said, it’s time to ride on I guess.

The Return of an Anti-Hacker community

UPDATE: Ya know, Maplenoobs just isn’t off to a great start, we’ve been through about 3-4 hosts so far and either the site gets suspended within the first day or the host just plain sucks.  Ben’s trying to secure some quality free hosting and so far it just isn’t working.  There might be many host changes still to come at this rate.

I think just about everyone knows how unhappy I was about what happened with Maplenoobs back in March. What it seemed like to everyone that was involved with the site is that its previous maintainer, Becky, decided to disappear after the site was mysteriously suspended on Hostgator, never to be seen again. After a bit of investigation and an encounter with her some months later it seemed that she had completely denied of the sites existence, and thus she took some heat from the community. A replacement site was in the works, but then patch 0.39 came around and the hacker problem went from out of control to non-existent and the person creating it called it off.

Six months later though, Maplenoobs is back.

Becky had no choice to abandon the initial incarnation of the site due to problems and stress, not anything that should be written about in detail. This time, it’s in the hands of her friend Ben who had always been the site’s real owner. (Hence the fact his name has been on the domain’s registration since it first started.) The idea was to finally ditch the old wiki format and maybe use something a bit more streamlined, but as ideas are bounced around there isn’t much else other than a forum for the time being. As of right now development is a bit slow, but consistent as things are getting done to hopefully get the site to its full potential soon enough.

Most of the old sysops are back as well, with the exception of a few. TinDragon (aka LordTinny of Bera) is undergoing training with the Marines at the time, Beardy seems to have fallen off the face of the Internet, and EROHIME has long quit Maple for Rappelz and doesn’t show all that much interest in the reincarnation of the site. Ben ended up choosing two other sysops though; JoeTang and smio (a.k.a. DitzKnight)

I hope to see all you blog readers there yet again.
