UPDATE – 07/23/07: This thread on Sleepywood shows what was found hidden on the gMS website as per NX items coming out this week, and one of those items are the MapleTV megaphone item. That being said, not only does that confirm a patch for this week but it also shows that we are in fact getting Maple TV in this patch, though as mentioned in the rest of this post it’s not much of a big deal.
With the announcement of New Leaf City throwing a curveball into many patch 0.40 predictions, another feature available in other versions of MapleStory seems to have been made for an almost imminent release to gMS.
On Monday, someone discovered a new directory on gMS’ patch FTP site. Inside this directory were 3 flash files, each containing a scene that can be found on MapleTV, a sort of different broadcast system that started on MapleSEA and made its way to other versions later. The system works somewhat like a megaphone/super megaphone, where a user buys a related item from the cash shop. This allows them to display a message on the top of TV screens that are strategically placed around the MapleStory world.
However, the possible release of this in gMS hasn’t all been good reception; people who have played MapleSEA say that there were certain technical issues that came along with MapleTV, mainly one bug in particular that happens when a user leaves the map or changes channels where a TV set is displayed on screen. It doesn’t sound to be an absolutely critical bug by the sounds of it, but it may prove to be an annoyance.
Will MapleTV really be making its debut in gMS soon? I guess we’ll find out in the coming weeks.
In addition, no matter how hard they try, the GMs just can’t find a way to make themselves funny in the eyes of the community. As much as they seem to enjoy poking themselves with toy weapons scattered around the office (like one GM blog said) I think they should just stick to banning people rather than try to be funny. :P
